The area in 1752, before canals, and before the iron bridge was erected, although a ferry ran on the site. Note the coal pits at Wrockwardine Wood, Ketley (Coalpit) Bank, and Lawley, here spelt Lealey. The other pits are south of the river. Madely Court, now a hotel, is obvious, as is Windmill Farm which was to host one of the Canal Incline Planes. The Wealdmoors are spelt Wild Moors, Lilleshall is here Lilleshull, and Priorslee is Prior's Leigh. Oaken Gates is on Watling Street between the Wrockwardine Wood and Ketley (Coalpit) Bank Coal Pits.
