Just an addition to the comments about the John Maddocks Foundry, my grandfather and his brother worked at the "Black Hole" for a combined total of 104 years. When my grandfather retired, after 54 years, he was entitled to a pension which he collected for a few months until unfortunately the Company went into Bankruptcy, - the work ceased and so did the pension. I can only hope that the Maddocks family didn't go without like he and his family did. Len Venables was his name.

Hi to everyone in Oakengates especialy Ketley Bank. I am wondering if anybody remembers the Palmer family that use to live in Third Ave, Ketley Bank. My father's name is Jim and my mum's name was Brenda. They had six children. Angela, Nigel, Russell, Colin, Hazel, and Stuart. We emigrated to this fantastic country in the month of August 1969. I would to hear from anybody who knew us, especialy Debbie Simpson or Terry Dearnley. Thankyou.

Hi there. I am an Oakengates girl (Ketley Bank for 18 years) went to Ketley Bank and later Queenswood Country primary schools, followed by Wellington High School and then Manchester University. Currently doing the family tree. Seems Jaundrells/Jaundrills have lived in the area for at least 200+ years. Also looking at Edwards (Vicar/Church Street Oakengates) and Lowe (Trench/Wonbridge). Would be great to hear from onyone who remembers me or has any familyhistory info!!

I was born in St. Georges in 1946 in the old Granville Buildings. My dad was Jack Lane and my mom was Joan. I have two brothers Jackie and Ray and two sisters Virginia and Joan. My dad was a miner he worked at the Granville colliery, but sadly he died in 1984, and my mum died in 1993. We left Granville Buildings in the fifties and moved to The Rookery in Wrockwardine Wood, from there we moved to Ketley Bank. I joined the R.A.F in 1964 and got married in 1965. We came back to Sixth Avenue to live in 1972 after travelling around the country for seven years. We moved to Trench in 1976 where we lived until we moved back to St. Georges almost to the same spot that I left all those years ago, I now live in Dukes Way where as a child I used to play. Lots of things have changed except Urban Villas which is exactly as I remember it. Anyone who wants to chat please feel free to do so. Bye for now.

Hello. I used to live in New St, St Georges from 1970 to 1979, and attended St Georges Infants. Anyone who knows St Georges will remember Eastments Newsagents on West St that was run by my grandparents. After moving to Wrockwardine Wood, then to Madeley, I find myself back at St Georges now living in Church St with my partner Lucy and my daughter Amy. I still have a lot of good friends who I have grown up with who still ive in St Georges, its a great place to live. Take care.

Have recently bought a cottage on Holyhead road (Oakengates end, opposite the vicarage) which I am told used to be the local blacksmiths - does anyone out there remember this? Perhaps you can enlighten me on the history of the place! Apparently it was two cottages that were knocked into one in the 1980s.

Excellent site. I lived in Donnington until 1984 then moved around from Lancashire to Cambridgeshire then ended up in Hereford. I have had some great times in Oakengates (namely at the Beer Festivals) and always keep coming back for more. I look forward to hearing from anyone who may remember me.

Hi everyone, my name is Brian Clayton and for nine years now I've lived "Down Under" in Queensland, and Bristol for ten years before that. I was born and raised in Donnington and my family home remains in Cordingley Way (with other family in Hadley and Cannock). I get to visit every couple of years and last time I was over I had a good few jars in the Oakengates pubs...I must recommend a particular knee-wobbling German brew called Hoegarden served in The Crown...a formidable brew and one which will be savoured again this coming Christmas!! Cheers, Brian Clayton
